The Senate President is the head of the Legislative Branch, responsible for presiding over weekly Senate sessions, maintaining order and decorum in the Senate Chamber, and overseeing all Senate operations. They appoint Senators to committees, manage the Senate Officer team, represent the Senate in all official matters, and serve as the primary voice for the Senate with the university administration. The Senate President has the authority to appoint Senate Officers, initiate investigations into any Student Government Association matter, call committees to meet, call special sessions of the Senate, and chair the Constitutional Review Commission, which convenes once every three years to review and propose amendments to the Student Body Constitution.

Senate President Pro Tempore

The Senate President Pro Tempore assists the Senate President in all of their duties, presides over the Senate in their absence, and oversees all Senate committee operations by chairing the Rules Committee, which is composed of all committee chairs. They are responsible for enforcing the Senate attendance policy and have the authority to suspend Senators for noncompliance. The Senate President Pro Tempore also chairs the Homecoming Planning Commission, keeps track of all Senate goals, projects, and initiatives, and assists in overseeing the Senate Officer team. They maintain relationships with the Congress of Graduate Students and all other internal Student Government Association entities that work with the Senate, and aid Senators in drafting and developing legislation.

Officers of the Senate:

Senate Clerk • Yaya Similien
The Clerk is responsible for tracking and distributing legislation and other literature to Senators. They also manage all records and actions between the Senate and external entities or personnel. The Clerk oversees CivicPlus meetings for Senate committees, ensures accurate tracking of legislation through the committee process, and may take on additional tasks as assigned by Senate Leadership. They report to the Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore on a weekly basis.

Senate Assistant Clerk • Mann Patel
The Assistant Clerk is responsible for assisting the Clerk in their duties, particularly managing internal Senate records. They oversee the Senate’s main CivicPlus meeting system, process all submitted legislation from Senators, and ensure accurate and accessible legislative records. They may take on additional tasks assigned by Senate Leadership and report to the Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore on a weekly basis.

Senate Parliamentarian • Jordan McKenzie

The Parliamentarian advises the Senate on matters of procedure and pertinent laws, statutes, and constitutional provisions, ensuring compliance with parliamentary rules. They maintain order in Senate Chambers under the direction of the President or other presiding officers. The Parliamentarian also trains new Senators on parliamentary rules each semester and performs any other duties assigned by the Senate President or President Pro Tempore. They report to the Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore on a weekly basis.

Senate Public Affairs • Olivia Hellman

The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for maintaining Senate outreach and external communications. They serve as the official photographer of the Student Senate, capturing and maintaining visual records of Senate events and activities. Additionally, they manage all external communications between the Senate and outside organizations, ensuring accurate and professional representation of the Senate. The Public Affairs Officer coordinates Senate outreach efforts, including tabling events, public forums, and other engagement opportunities. They work with Senate Leadership to develop and execute strategies for promoting Senate initiatives and maintain regular communication with university media and other campus organizations. The Public Affairs Officer reports to the Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore on a weekly basis.

Senate Historian • Marina Farulla
The Historian is responsible for taking minutes of meetings of the Student Senate. They manage all minutes and records of Senate and committee meetings, ensuring that committee Vice Chairs fulfill their record-keeping duties. The Historian also performs any other duties that the Student Senate President or President Pro Tempore determine to be necessary for these purposes. The Historian reports to the Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore on a weekly basis.
