Steven Medarev

Steven Medarev is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at FSU’s College of Medicine. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, he earned his bachelors in Biochemistry from FSU and his master’s in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Tulane University School of Medicine. His research focuses on how adiponectin signaling influences cardiac and microvascular adaptations to aging and exercise. Steven was recently named the 2025 Esther & Del Grosser Scholar by FSU’s Institute for Successful Longevity in recognition of his impactful research. Beyond the lab, Steven joined COGS during the 31st Congress and later served as Chair of Internal Affairs for the 32nd Congress and Deputy Speaker of Finance during the 33rd Congress. He now looks forward to continuing his service as Speaker for the 34th Congress.

Joey Serrone

Deputy Speaker for Finance • Joey Serrone

Joey Serrone is a current student at the FSU College of Law. Joseph was born in New York but raised in South Florida. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science at FSU. Joey joined the 33rd Congress and served as Vice Chair of the Student Advocacy committee before becoming Deputy Speaker of Finance. In his free time, Joey enjoys playing Magic: the Gathering, pickleball, and golf.

Nicholette Lanane

Nicholette Lanane is a first-year law student at FSU Law. She moved from her hometown of Peoria, IL, to Fort Lauderdale, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from Nova Southeastern University. Since beginning law school, she has engaged with FSU by joining organizations and working with the with the Alumni Affairs Office. She previously served a brief term as Chair of Internal Affairs in the 33rd Congress and now serves as the Deputy Speaker for Judicial Affairs in the 34th Congress.

Noah Baez

Noah Kirchmeyer-Baez is a second-year graduate student representing the College of Education. Noah is currently studying higher education at FSU. Noah came to Tallahassee, FL, in 2018 for his last two years of high school. During his time as an undergraduate student here at FSU, Noah participated in various organizations across the FSU campus, including being an RA, Student Senator for the College of Criminology, and an event coordinator for the Puerto Rican Student Association. Noah is one of the graduate assistants for Student Conduct and Community Standards at Florida State.

DeShean Stokes

DaSean Stokes (he/him/his)

DaSean Stokes, hailing from Missouri, is a performer, composer, and administrator based in the Tallahassee arts community. Currently, Mr. Stokes pursued a Master of Arts degree specializing in arts administration at Florida State University. Stokes earned his bachelor’s degree in voice performance from Central Methodist University and a master’s degree in voice performance from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In May of 2024, Stokes premiered his opera The Saturday’s Sorrow which recounts the final days of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion through the prospective of a sorrowful Mary the Mother and Mary Magdalene. Currently, at FSU, Mr. Stokes is pursuing a DM in voice performance as the 2024-2025 McKnight Doctoral Fellow as well as being the Deputy Speaker of Advocacy for COGS.
