Event Description: WSU, Hands of Hope, and the Student Disability Resource Center, pair up for our general body meeting centered to shed light on an often time overlooked group of womxn, women with disabilities. We will discuss disability rights and different disabilities that womxn experience. We will then transition into ways to get involve to advocate for womxn with disabilities and resources within our campus and community.

 

 

 

 

Title: Battle of the Sexes Film and Panel
Date: March 5th

Location: Askew Student Life Center
Event Description: The 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs became the most watched televised sports event of all time. Trapped in the media glare, King and Riggs were on opposites sides of a binary argument, but off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles. With her husband urging her to fight for equal pay, the private King was also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, while Riggs gambled his legacy and reputation in a bid to relive the glories of his past.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Title: Golden Torch Lecture Series Presents: An Evening with Roxane Gay

Event Description: Roxane Gay is an author and cultural critic whose writing is unmatched and widely revered. Her work garners international acclaim for its reflective, no-holds-barred exploration of feminism and social criticism. With a deft eye on modern culture, she brilliantly critiques its ebb and flow with both wit and ferocity.

 

Ticket distribution for FSU students for “An Evening with Roxane Gay” will take place at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall on the campus of Florida State University on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. Tickets will be distributed to FSU students with valid gold FSU ID beginning at 5:30pm. Students may obtain one ticket per valid gold FSU ID. Tickets are first come, first serve and will be general admission seating. 

 

 

Title: Drab to Fab Cooking Class

Event Description: Florida State University’s Women Student Union will be partnering with the Center for Health Advocacy and Wellness (CHAW) to host a Drab to Fab: Cooking Class. Health and Wellness Dietitian, Joanne Perez-Vergara, will lead the class through a lesson on healthy cooking with herbs and spices.

Event Description: A discussion lead by Margaret Mauk centered around womxn in literature. During this event we encourage students, faculty, and staff, to bring their own books to discuss and share in a facilitated discussion. Books to keep in mind are those written by a woman author or the central plot focuses on a womxn, women's empowerment, women's issues and specifically books that explore similar topics Roxane Gay addresses in “Difficult Women.” The event will also function as a book give away party for the Women’s History Month book selection “Difficult Women” by Roxane Gay. “Difficult Women” will be handed out in limited quantities.

Event Description: FSU's Women's Student Union presents the annual production of Eve Ensler’s groundbreaking play, The Vagina Monologues.


The Vagina Monologues was written based on hundreds of interviews with women of varying race, ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, etc. This collection manifests in an episodic play that touches on the many aspects of the woman experience - such as sex, love, birth, rape, and menstruation, among other various topics. The Vagina Monologues hopes to provide audiences with an insight on what it means to identify as a woman. Join us in the celebration of one of the most beautiful things in the universe: the Vagina! Admission is FREE!

Title: Women’s Leadership Conference

Event Description: Women’s Leadership Conference is an annual conference hosted by Women Student Union during Women’s History Month with the intent of fostering relationships, building leadership skills, and strengthening communities of women on campus. The theme for this year’s conference is “I Am My Sister’s Keeper,” in which students will have the opportunity to attend workshops centered around personal and professional development for womxn as well as explore the importance of community amongst womxn. Following the kick off, conference attendees will split up into their choice workshop, before going back to the large group for the last session.
