Team Rules
- In order to show, riders must take at least three lessons with the team trainer before the first show of the season and then take one lesson per week thereafter. The trainers and captains reserve the right to refuse a show spot to a rider who does not ride in their weekly lesson.
- Riders must give trainers at least 24-hour notice to cancel a lesson unless deemed an emergency in which case written documentation should be provided. If a rider fails to give 24-hours of notice, he/she will still be held financially responsible.
- Team members must participate in at least three out of four of team fundraising and community service events each year. It is the responsibility of each member to notify the fundraising chair if he/she is unable to participate in an event; the board may make arrangements for missed events if deemed necessary.
- Team members must attend 75% of team meetings. Any member unable to attend a meeting must contact the Team President, Vice President, or Secretary within 24 hours of the meeting time.
- On show days, riders must stay for the entire show and are expected to remain together as a team for the duration of the show.
- Riders who are unable to participate in a show for which they have already been placed on the roster must contact the team Captain prior to the show day. Refunds will only be given for cancellations made before the entry date deadline of each show. Once entry form is submitted, members are responsible for their entry fees, regardless of the circumstances.
- Team members are expected to travel to and from Florida State University as a group. Also, all showing members will be required to stay in the team-designated hotel.
-If friends and family want to come to show their support we will be more than happy to make accommodations for them. The team captain or person making reservations must be notified one week prior to the show for special accommodation requests. The team is in no way liable for any costs incurred by friends and/or family members.
- The team will pay competition-related lodging and trainer expenses when club funds permit. All food and other incidental expenses are the responsibility of the individual. Fuel expenses will be split between the passengers in any given vehicle. A member’s failure to honor his/her commitment to participate in a show will result in that member being billed for any charges incurred by the club on his/her behalf.
- Paid members have the right to participate in all club activities. They also must represent the team in a positive and professional manner. Members must not be disruptive or disrespectful to other club members, team officers, Advisors, Coaches, or anyone affiliated with IHSA or IDA.
- Any member wishing to resign from the club must submit a written resignation to the club President so that he/she can notify the Secretary, respective Team Captain, and others of the member’s resignation.
- Please be respectful of all barn rules. Remember the horses and equipment are being donated for team use therefore they should be treated and taken care of with the utmost respect.
- Any special requests for car rides and hotel rooms will need to be made a week before the show or before the show entries are due. Please note that the officers may not be able to meet all requests.
- Florida State University is in no way liable for team members traveling to and from horse shows. Drivers must contact the President and/or VP by phone upon arrival at horse shows and returning home. If some members decide to return home at a later date, everyone in that group must submit written documentation of plans to the President and/or VP one week prior to the show.
- All members will be expected to arrive at the hotel the night prior to the show by 11pm. Please contact the President or Vice President 24 hours before departure if this is not possible. In case of an emergency while traveling, please notify the President, Captain, and/or Coach immediately.
- Please remember the coach is the coach. Do not coach from the rail, unless specifically asked by the coach and/or captain.
- The team only receives 2 show programs and horse rosters; therefore, please be considerate of your fellow teammates and keep them in the designated location. When time permits, please help write down class results.
- It is the RIDER’S responsibility to make it to his/her class on time, not the coach’s or team captain’s. Likewise it is the RIDER’S responsibility to be dressed and prepared for the ride time.
- Only the coach can adjust the tack. Do not adjust any part of the horse’s tack for yourself or other riders. Failure to abide by this rule will result in elimination for the show.
- Show common courtesy while riding to and from shows. The cars are personal property; therefore, please do not smoke (unless given permission), or leave trash, and follow any other requests made by the owner.
- Members will be held responsible for the actions of their guests at shows and other events. Please acquaint them with team, IHSA, and IDA rules.
- Due to the fact that this is a school related event, alcohol will be forbidden. Even if you are of legal age, we ask that you respect this rule. If we are going to be a competitive team, everyone needs to be in tip-top shape.
Please approach an officer of the team with any issues and/or concerns so that it may be addressed and solved in a timely manner.
