The purpose of the W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society is to recognize academic excellence among African American students, and to support, guide, and encourage their involvement in other leadership and honorary organizations on the campus of The Florida State University. The DuBois Honor Society seeks to raise the image of the African American scholar from one of passive obscurity to one of active recognition and involvement.

The Society aims at fostering initiatives for leadership, community service, and networking. To fulfill its dedication to each of these tenures, committees are organized to facilitate such. Events are sponsored throughout each academic year, some of which include:

  • Induction Ceremonies
  • Dean's List Receptions
  • Joint activities and programs with the Oscar Arias Honor Society
  • Social activities for members
  • Programs to foster mentoring relationships between faculty and
    students
  • End of semester celebrations
  • End of the year awards and recognition banquets
