The Journal: June 03, 2009

The meeting of the 61st Student Senate was called to order at 7:32 p.m. by Student Senate President Bobby Seifter.

Senator Simmons lead the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Messages from the Executive Branch: Richard Benson, Acting Student Body Treasurer, told the Senate that he signed the last purchase order for this fiscal year and that Faye Singletary told him they are looking at sweepings probably about $423,000. He said that it is atrocious having this much money being swept. He said the handout that Senate received is some ideas from the office of the treasurer and there are fundamental flaws in sweepings in that too much money is being swept. Benson said there is an appeal from the Women’s Center which is an ex-facto incident and he is in favor of allowing them to spend the money. Student Body President Rob Jakubik said he is working with the webmaster to put all the events that are happening in SGA on the website, and Treasurer’s report will also be included.

Messages from Agency and Bureau Directors, and SGA Organization Officers and Employees: Michelle, the Homecoming Assistant Director, passed out Homecoming t-shirts to the Senators.

Judiciary-As reported in the Calendar. The Senate interviewed and passed: Roary Snider for Attorney General and Mark Johnson for Student Supreme Court Associate Justice.

Internal Affairs-Did not meet.

Rules and Calendar-Chairman Cuyler said the committee deliberated absences and interviewed and forwarded Autumn Ondriska for Undergraduate Studies Seat 8.

The Senate sworn in the following Temporary Associate Justices of the Student Supreme Court: Adam Cobb, Greg Salnick, Harris Weinstein, and Conor McLauglin. Carli Citraro for Temporary University Defender and Nicholas Abrahams for Temporary Clerk of the Court.

Bills Second Reading:

Bill 40-Sponsored by Senator Howard. A transfer of $207,900 from the Old Funding Boards to RTAC and PAC and Organizational Fund. Purpose: to transfer money from old funding boards to the New Fund Distribution Committees. PASSED WITHOUT OBJECTION.

Bill 43-Sponsored by Senator Bonderud. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter 402.2 B. Purpose: to clarify the veto and veto amendment process. PASSED WITHOUT OBJECTION.

Bill 44-Sponsored by Senators Goins and Hutchinson. A revision to the Student Body Statutes Chapter 1003.3 B (2). Purpose: to make BSU statutes conform with SGA Statutes. PASSED WITHOUT OBJECTION.

Bill 45-Sponsored by Senator Howard. An addition to the Student Body Statutes Chapter 800. Purpose: to add Chapter 807.8, to create the Organizational Fund for RSOs. PASSED WITHOUT OBJECTION.

Constitutional Amendments: None.

Resolution 52-Sponsored by Senator Dayan.
Subject: Granting the Women’s Center after the fact purchase justification.
REFERRED TO FINANCE.

New Business: None.

Closing Announcements: Senator Richards told the Senate that she is getting the documentary and the director to come to Senate and speak about bio-diesel research. Senator Kushner said the super regionals featuring FSU Baseball team will take place this weekend. Senate Pro Tempore Cuyler announced that the Budget Crisis Committee met and they are working on a three year plan to divide the cuts. He asked the new Senators to sign up for the Colloquium or come by his office. Senate President Seifter told the Senate that financial certification needs to be completed in 30 days. He told the Senate that he started a blog on the legislative branch and he encouraged Senators to go there and check it out. He appointed Senators Kushner and Hall to the SAP Funding Committee.
