The Hispanic/Latino Student Union, better known as the HLSU, is an agency of the FSU Student Government Association founded in 1995. The HLSU functions as an institution that represents the interest of Hispanic/Latino as well as other students at FSU. We have many fun events throughout the year such as events during Hispanic Heritage Month, an Annual Spanish Concert, Picnics, Socials, Cultural & Educational Seminars and many other events that promote our culture and help to educate others about our customs and traditions. There are eleven different committees in which you can get involved as chairs, co-chairs or members. In addition, the HLSU has eight different affiliate member organizations in which you can be involved, including fraternities, sororities, cultural organizations and an academic honor society.
I know how difficult the transition from high school to college is and I want you to know that we are here to help you. We are here to help you get to know more about HLSU and various things to do at Florida State University, Tallahassee, and other nearby places. The Hispanic/Latino population is continuously growing, more than ever in Florida; so there are various events that cater to this rising population. I cordially invite you to join our agency as we accomplish our goals and fulfill our mission.
Please remember that your help as a member of this agency makes a big difference and is crucial for our collective success and achievements. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get a hold of any HLSU Executive Board or Committee Member, or stop by our office in the 3rd floor of the Oglesby Union Rm. A303H. We are here to help you in any way possible and we want you to succeed, not only as a student, but as a campus leader as well. The knowledge and experience you gain in college should not only be in the classroom, but all around you. I challenge you to get involved and join us as we continue “honoring our roots to enable our progress.”
