Student Comments: Senator Robert Thompson read the SGA Mission Statement to the Senate saying FSU SGA is to provide FSU students with representation, services and advocacy within the university structure and to provide quality leadership for, and accountability to, its constituency by recognizing that strength arises from diversity, engagement and dialogue. He told the Senate that when he attended Georgetown University last Spring he took a class that focused on democracy and it really challenged his ideas of freedom, equality and democracy and you cannot have democracy without equality and you cannot have equality without freedom. Thompson told the Senate that the fact that this Senate has decided to become servants to equality and deny students their fundamental right of freedom on our campus is when he realized that this student body, America and himself had become servants to this notion, and therefore he must stand up for his principals, the Constitution of the United States of America and for the mission statement of SGA, and the student body and warn all of you about the treacherous path that you have brought upon yourself and the United States. He said “therefore, I humbly resign my position as a student representative at FSU on the grounds that the voice of students has decided to persecute a minority on our campus.” Edward Kring thanked the Senate for passing Resolution 37. Ashley Brown of the Black Graduate Student Association told the Senate that they want to purchase an award that costs over $75, and to do this their organization must get Senate’s approval.
